The Romance of Ants

An Exhibition at The Field Museum, Chicago

Ants are a female dominated society with females doing almost all the jobs in a colony. Almost every ant you ever see is female, like these “worker” ants (Pseudomyrmex spinicola) seen on the tip of an Acacia thorn. These workers are sterile—the queen is the only female in the colony able to reproduce.
